Getting to the Alton Region by...
BY CAR All roads lead to the Alton region and the Meeting of the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway. At the hub of the region is Alton, Illinois is just 25 miles north of St. Louis on the banks of the Mississippi River. By car, you can easily reach us via I-55, I-70, I-270, I-44, Hwy 40 and I-255.
FREE CHARGE! For all of our environmentally friendly visitors driving electric cars, you can get a free charge at the Alton City Hall, located at 101 E. Third St. in Downtown Alton. The charging station is located in the City Hall parking lot in a designated parking spot. The charge is free and is first come first serve. All you need to do is pull up to the charger, plug-in and juice up. For a full battery charge, you'll need to allow up to six hours. While you charge, take the steps from City Hall down to Broadway St. in Alton to browse the shops, grab a bite to eat or cross the pedestrian overpass into Riverfront Park to enjoy the Mississippi River views.
BY PLANE Alton is conveniently located 20 miles from St. Louis Lambert International Airport and minutes from the St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto.
BY TRAIN Have you taken the train lately? Enter Alton by rail from all over the country and pull into the Amtrak station located in Upper Alton. Check out the special deals available when you take the train to Alton.

BY BOAT The Alton region is home to two first-class marinas with transient slips available anytime you choose to stop and stay awhile.
Call the Alton Visitor Center at 1-800-258-6645 for a Boating on the Byway Map to help you navigate the rivers of the region.
TAKE THE FERRY Give the ferries a try as you are making your way to the various attractions throughout the region. From Missouri, the ferry can cut your travel time in half! Check the map for ferry access points.
